We met up with my Dad yesterday morning and rode through parts of Glacier National Park. In the park we rode on the going-to-the-sun-road which is one of the highlights of Glacier. The scenery was beautiful . . . but traffic was bad and there was a lot of road work being done which slowed the pace up a lot. We originally planned to ride the road in and then back again. After running it one way, we decided to take another route on the return trip. Because Jim's bike was on restriction for the day [because the alternator was not charging the battery] he rode my bike a good bit of the day. On the way back, we came up on some great curvy/winding roads so I was not-too-happy that he was riding my bike instead of me. Of course my bike is specially set up for my 5'5" frame, so his 6'3" body doesn't really fit it that great so I am sure that he wasn't enjoying those curves like he would have been on his own bike. I rode with my dad in his mini-motorhome part of the day and rode on with Jim part of the day. Once we got on those good back roads the guys finally stopped and Jim let me back on my bike and I rode it for the remainder of the trip back [of course he got the portion of the road with the best curves before turning my bike back over to me!]. Glacier is a beautiful place with some absolutely spectacular scenery.
Today we took Jim's bike in to the local Harley dealership to get it worked on. The service department is closed on Sunday and Monday so we had to wait until today to get it fixed. At first they said that they couldn't get to it until Friday . . . FRIDAY . . . NO WAY! They finally were willing to work the bike in. We left it and went on a ride around Flathead Lake near Glacier. Jim rode my bike and I rode on with Scott. The riders seat on my bike is HORRIBLE. After riding on the back for a little while yesterday, I realized that it is not designed to handle a rider. I think it is just for looks. Scott offered to let me ride on with him so that I could see the scenery around the lake and take some pictures. We stopped by a swim area at the lake and talked with some other motorcyclist. While there Jim got a call about his bike. It was worse than we thought. I won't even pretend to tell you what is wrong as I don't understand it all but something happened and some magnetic something or other broke loose and messed things up pretty bad. They are having parts sent in overnight [which won't be here until Thursday because of how late they ordered them] and then they will be ultimately rebuilding the motor. It will be even better than before when it is all done, but it will take until Friday evening before it is ready to ride. We've decided to drive up into Canada while we wait. We are having to shift things around because we will not have the storage space in Jim's bike or the trailer that he has been pulling, to haul all our stuff. My dad has a storage "egg" on the back of his "baby" bus and we are hoping that our things will fit in there. We have 3 bikes and 4 riders so we are planning to change things up during the 3 or 4 days we are on this leg of the journey. I will ride with my dad some and let Jim "enjoy" riding my bike and he will ride with dad some while I ride. Scott has offered to let Jim ride his bike some too. Not sure if he will take him up on it or not. We'll see . . . . in any case we are planning to leave in the morning headed for the Icefields Parkway in Canada.
