Update

Saturday, we left Estes Park. As we got into higher elevations, the temperatures dropped dramatically. I put on several layers, plus my leather jacket, and chaps, and I was still cold. Unfortunately, we also ran through a bit of rain. Cold + rain + motorcycle wind chill = really, really cold. Most of us were still chilled even after we stopped for lunch and had time off the bikes and out of the elements. My teeth were literally still chattering as I got back on my bike. We came through some really good roads, but much of the time the roads were wet, so we had to take it slow and easy. Because of the weather, it was another challenging day. We stopped and stayed Saturday night in Gunnison, Colorado.

Sunday we visited Black Canyon National Park. We took an amazing winding, curvy, 16% grade road down to get into a beautiful canyon. The Gunnison River flows through the bottom of the canyon.  We were planning to head to Arches National Park after leaving the Black Canyon, but on our way I saw a sign for Ouray, Colorado. I remembered a great road that travels between Ouray and Silverton. We looked at the map, and saw that we could change directions a bit and still make our destination, so that's exactly what we did. Highway 550 is one of my favorite roads to travel on my motorcycle. Eddie drove the truck through, and he definitely does not share my love for it.  He thinks it's a bad road, but I think it's the best of the best. It has lots of curves and scenery, but watch out - there are some major drop off's (with no guard rails in many spots), so stay away from the roads edge! What a fun ride!! :)

We stayed overnight in Durango, Co., and headed out in the direction of Moab on Monday morning.  We have never taken the time to see Canyonland when traveling through this area in the past, so we decided to check it out. We went through the lower section of the park and were blown away with the beauty. The scenery was incredible, and truly beyond anything that words can even attempt to describe. We drove through the park and made a couple of stops to soak it all in before getting back on the road. Jim and I definitely hope to come back to Canyon Land for a longer stay in the future. We made it to Moab where we stopped for the night.

Pictures coming soon!
